President John Mahama has officially nominated Dr. Paa Kwesi Badoo for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, effective April 30, 2025.
The nomination was announced through a formal communication from the presidency, which included Dr. Badoo’s curriculum vitae. Authorities have been instructed to begin the necessary processes to regularize the appointment in accordance with the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act, 1996 (Act 525), as amended.
Dr. Badoo, a seasoned medical doctor and administrator, is expected to leverage his extensive experience in health sector management at one of Ghana’s premier referral and teaching hospitals. The president has extended his best wishes to Dr. Badoo as he prepares to assume his new role.

Meanwhile, the former CEO, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, was relieved of his duties on May 2, 2025, following a meeting with the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh. The minister expressed gratitude for Prof. Addai-Mensah’s service and dedication to improving the hospital.
During his tenure, which began in 2022, Prof. Addai-Mensah led several significant initiatives, including the “Heal Komfo Anokye Project,” aimed at modernizing the hospital. Under his leadership, the number of dialysis machines increased from two to over twenty, and a new pharmaceutical block was constructed.
