President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to officially launch the Ghana Labour Export Programme as part of efforts to generate job opportunities for the country’s youth through international employment partnerships. Speaking to residents in the Ahafo Region on Saturday, May 31, during his ongoing Thank You tour, the President revealed that the government is in advanced discussions with several countries facing labor shortages to facilitate Ghanaian professionals working abroad on fixed-term contracts.

“We will soon launch the Ghana Labour Export Programme. There are labor shortages in many countries worldwide, and we are negotiating with several of those countries to export some of our professionals to work on fixed-term contracts abroad,” President Mahama stated.

The programme is expected to encompass a diverse range of sectors, including agriculture, construction, health, hospitality, and logistics. Targeted professions include electricians, welders, mechanics, nurses, chefs, caterers, drivers, warehouse supervisors, and machine operators.

The President shared that a contract has already been signed with one country for the export of 200 temporary workers. He assured that the selection process would be conducted fairly, providing equal opportunities for candidates from all 16 regions of Ghana, including the Ahafo region.
