The Ghana Police Service has arrested 49 individuals involved in illegal mining activities following a series of intelligence-led operations across the country.
Operation Highlights
The operations were conducted in several locations, including:
- Western Region: Huniso, Wassa-Dadieso, and Wassa-Gyapa
- Ashanti Region: Akrokerri
- Central Region: Dunkwa-On-Offin and Diaso
- Eastern Region: Awin River at Pankese and Akyem Akwadum
Significant Seizures in the Western Region
In Huniso, Wassa-Dadieso, and Wassa-Gyapa, the Western Central Regional Police Command arrested 19 suspects, disabled over 135 changfan machines, and seized:
- 23 water pumping machines
- Four excavator batteries
- One motorbike
Arrests in Ashanti and Eastern Regions
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command arrested nine suspects in Akrokerri. In the Eastern Region, 11 suspects were apprehended at the Awin River and Akyem Akwadum, with police recovering:
- One excavator monitor
- Two excavator pedals
- Seven control boards
- One gold detecting device
Central Region Operations
In Dunkwa-On-Offin and Diaso, the Central North Regional Police Command arrested 10 suspects and recovered:
- Four excavators
- Eight pumping machines
- One cylinder machine
All suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
