The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced plans for a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency, following disputes regarding the validity of results from the December 7, 2024 general election.

In a press release dated July 2, 2025, Deputy Commissioner for Operations, Mr. Samuel Tettey, confirmed that this rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025.

The decision came after a meeting on July 1, 2025, with representatives from the two major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The controversy began when the NDC raised concerns over the use of scanned Pink Sheets from 37 polling stations, claiming these documents, provided by the NPP, were not properly verified. The NDC requested a complete rerun across all 37 polling stations, a request that the EC ultimately denied.

In contrast, the NPP contended that results from only three polling stations were pending collation to finalize the outcome. They argued that the scanned Pink Sheets had been verified by NDC agents during the collation, a claim the EC did not accept.

The EC clarified that the scanned Pink Sheets were utilized after physical copies were destroyed when political party supporters entered the collation center.

After extensive discussions, the EC decided to proceed with a rerun in 19 of the 37 polling stations, explaining that while the scanned results from these stations had been accepted by party agents, they lacked verification from the respective Presiding Officers.

The remaining 18 polling stations, although also using scanned results, were verified by both agents and Presiding Officers, and will not undergo a rerun.

The EC has reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency, fairness, and integrity throughout the electoral process.

Additionally, the Ghana Police Service has been tasked with ensuring adequate security for a peaceful and orderly rerun.
