A prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Francis Addai-Nimoh, has characterized the party’s current situation as “brutally injured,” emphasizing that recovery will demand time, patience, and deep introspection.
During an appearance on JoyNews’ Upfront on July 2, Mr. Addai-Nimoh discussed the significant defeat the NPP faced in the 2024 general elections, leaving the party in a precarious state both structurally and emotionally.
“Our party, the New Patriotic Party, now, is brutally injured. So once you are injured and it’s a brutal one, the recovery takes time, and it takes a lot of things to fully recover,” he stated.
He highlighted the NPP’s disappointing performance in both presidential and parliamentary elections, noting that while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) faced a significant loss in 2016, it was not as severe as the NPP’s experience in 2024.
“In 2016, the NDC secured 106 parliamentary seats across all ten regions. But in our case, we managed only 88 seats, and our presidential candidate polled 41.7%,” he explained.
Addai-Nimoh expressed concern over the party’s geographical representation, revealing that the NPP currently holds no parliamentary seats in three original regions—Upper West, Upper East, and Volta—and has failed to secure any seats in four of the current regions.
“For a party that seeks to return to power, this must be of great concern as we look forward to 2028. It cannot be business as usual,” he cautioned.
He urged calm and level-headedness as the NPP embarks on a “recovery effort,” stressing the importance of dialogue and unity for the party to bounce back in future elections.
