President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative has evolved from a mere campaign slogan into a comprehensive national strategy aimed at enhancing productivity and creating more opportunities for Ghanaians.
During the official launch of the policy in Accra on July 2, 2025, President Mahama emphasized that the initiative, which gained national attention in 2024, has transformed into a structured plan designed to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for citizens.

“We have moved from slogan to strategy today,” he stated. “In 2024, the idea of a 24-hour economy captured national attention. It became a slogan of hope, a symbol that change was necessary and possible.”
He underscored that the true challenge lies in the effective implementation of the policy. “This launch is not the end, but the beginning of a massive national mobilization,” the President declared.
Addressing concerns about the initiative, President Mahama clarified that the 24-Hour Economy is not simply about extending working hours. Instead, it aims to boost productivity, promote exports, and foster inclusive growth across key sectors.
“The 24+ Agenda is not just about extending working hours. It is about unleashing productivity, expanding opportunities, and accelerating exports through well-structured and inclusive interventions,” he explained.
The 24-Hour Economy policy is a cornerstone of the Mahama administration’s economic development agenda and is expected to generate jobs, attract investment, and enhance Ghana’s competitiveness on the global stage.
