The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has expressed grave concerns regarding the alarming trend of students bringing weapons to school, labeling it a serious threat to the safety of both students and teachers.
During the inauguration of the new board members for the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and the National School Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) on July 4, 2025, Iddrisu emphasized the need for discipline and adherence to school regulations. He called for enhanced collaboration among all stakeholders to address the rising violence in educational environments.
The Minister urged the newly sworn-in board members to prioritize not only academic excellence but also the emotional and social development of students. He also advocated for the early integration of artificial intelligence and coding into the primary school curriculum, stressing that these skills are crucial for preparing students for a rapidly changing digital landscape.
In response, the newly appointed chairs of the boards, Professor Vincent Assanful (NaCCA) and Dr. Maabobor Kor Jacob Aaworb-Nang (NaSIA), committed to maintaining high-quality standards in pre-tertiary education and to working closely with key institutions to strengthen Ghana’s education system.
