Cristiano Ronaldo will have to enter a Madrid courthouse on foot on Tuesday after he was refused special treatment, officials at the court where he will appear for tax fraud said. According to a court document dated January 18 and unveiled on Monday, the 33-year-old Juventus forward and former Real Madrid player was denied special security measures that would have allowed him to avoid walking past journalists and curious onlookers. The court session will start at 9:50 am time (0850 GMT) and a spokesman said Ronaldo could be sentenced on the same day or in coming days. Ronaldo is expected to be given a hefty fine after Spanish tax authorities and the player’s advisors made a deal to settle claims he hid income generated from image rights when he played for Real Madrid The five-t

Interpol presidency vote: Russia in surprise loss to South Korea

International
Interpol has elected South Korean Kim Jong-yang as its president, rejecting the Russian frontrunner who had been accused of abusing the international police body's arrest warrant system. Mr Kim was chosen by Interpol's 194 member states at a meeting of its annual congress in Dubai. He beat Russia's Alexander Prokopchuk, who had been widely tipped to win. But there was growing concern that Mr Prokopchuk would use the role to target critics of Russia's President Putin. Moscow hit back at what it called a "campaign aimed at discrediting" the Russian candidate. The election follows the disappearance of Interpol's former president Meng Hongwei, who vanished on a trip to China in September. Beijing has since confirmed he has been detained and is being investigated for allegedly ta...

Dzeko: ‘Can’t explain Roma form’

International, Sports
Edin Dzeko admits “it’s difficult to explain” Roma’s struggles in Serie A compared to their Champions League form. The Giallorossi were beaten by Real Madrid in the Bernabeu, but in their next two European games they’ve scored eight goals without reply. Domestically though the capital club are struggling, sitting ninth after no wins in three games. “It’s difficult to explain,” Dzeko said in the Press conference ahead of the CSKA Moscow match. “We’ve done very well in the Champions League this year, with the exception of Madrid, maybe it’s because there are fewer matches in Europe and we need to give everything. “We should do the same in Serie A, but maybe some think it’s easy to win against Bologna, Spal and Chievo when that’s not the case. “Serie A
