Former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has urged President John Mahama to dismiss all government officials who have failed to declare their assets as mandated by law.
In an interview on JoyNews, Mr. Domelevo condemned the lack of compliance with the President’s directive, labeling it a clear sign of “gross indiscipline and disrespect.” He asserted that individuals who have not submitted their asset declaration forms should be promptly removed from their positions.
“This is not how to reset a country,” he stated. “If the people chosen to support the President do not respect his orders, then they do not deserve their positions.”
President Mahama publicly declared his assets in February and set a deadline for his appointees to do the same by March, warning of potential consequences for non-compliance. However, a report by The Fourth Estate reveals that many officials have not adhered to this directive. Out of 55 ministers and deputy ministers, nine have failed to declare their assets. Additionally, eight out of 32 presidential staffers and 37 out of 84 heads of state institutions have also missed the deadline.
Mr. Domelevo called on the President to take swift and decisive action. “There are over 33 million Ghanaians,” he remarked. “We have many capable people who can take over from those who don’t want to follow simple rules.”
He emphasized that holding non-compliant officials accountable would serve as a crucial step in restoring discipline within public office.
