Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has challenged Gomoa Central MP, Kwame Asare-Obeng (popularly known as A Plus), to provide concrete evidence supporting his recent corruption allegations made on social media.
In a media address on Wednesday, April 30, Dr. Ayine dismissed A Plus’s claims as unfounded and referred to them as “palpable falsehoods.” He specifically refuted allegations suggesting he misdirected funds from the Sanitation Levy to a friend and rejected accusations of theft and corruption.
Dr. Ayine emphasized that his actions are guided by careful thought and integrity, which he believes earned him the position of Attorney General.
“The Honourable Kwame Asare-Obeng made serious allegations against me, labeling me corrupt and a thief. Beyond the name-calling, the entirety of his Facebook post is a palpable falsehood,” he stated.
He clarified that he was not involved in the passage of the sanitation levy, as he was not a member of the Finance Committee of Parliament and had no influence over its decisions.
Addressing campaign-related accusations, he remarked, “I am informed that the basis for his claims of my corruption is that I accepted campaign contributions from a businessman in East Legon known as Dr. Slege, and that he knows the individuals who donated pickups for my campaign. If receiving donations or getting a pickup constitutes thievery or corruption, then there are 276 thieves in Parliament, including A Plus himself.”
Dr. Ayine concluded by challenging the MP to make his claims official: “If A Plus has any evidence of corruption or thievery against me, I challenge him to hold a press conference to present the evidence or report it to the police for investigation.”
