The Greater Accra Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has taken fire safety education to the streets of Accra in celebration of International Firefighters’ Day.

This street education initiative aims to foster safer communities, prevent fire outbreaks, and address the frequent attacks on firefighters.

The program was organized to align with the locations of various fire stations under the Greater Accra Regional Command. For fire stations within the central district, the campaign began at Korle-Bu, proceeded through High Street, and concluded at the Accra City Fire Station in Makola, where various fire equipment were displayed.

Greater Accra Regional Fire Commander, ACFO I Rashid Nisawu, urged the public to support firefighters in their duties rather than confronting or attacking them.

Observed annually on May 4, International Firefighters’ Day honors the selfless dedication and invaluable contributions of firefighters worldwide. The week-long celebration, themed “Appreciating Our Heroes: Say No to Assault on Firefighters and Fire Truck Vandalism,” will conclude on May 5, 2025.
