The Inspector General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to promptly outline a clear roadmap to resolve the ongoing stalemate regarding the 2024 parliamentary election results in the Ablekuma North constituency.

Dr. Yohuno warned that the continued delay in the collation of parliamentary election results by Ghana’s electoral management body threatens public confidence in the nation’s democratic institutions.

Ahead of a planned meeting with the EC, he emphasized the urgency of the situation. “The EC must provide the National Election Security Taskforce with a roadmap for the formalization of the collation. This is a pivotal moment. The way we handle the collation in Ablekuma North will resonate across the country. It will set the tone, not only for this election but also for public confidence in the years to come,” he stated.

He further encouraged all stakeholders to work towards a peaceful and timely resolution: “Let us secure not just the ballot boxes but also the belief in the system. Let us not protect just physical lives but also the spirit of democracy.”

As it stands, Ablekuma North Constituency in the Greater Accra region is the only constituency out of 276 in Ghana without representation in Parliament due to unresolved disputes from the 2024 parliamentary elections. More than five months post-election, the EC has yet to finalize results to determine the elected representative for Ablekuma North.
