The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has urged opinion leaders, chiefs, and residents of Zabo Zongo, a Muslim community in Accra, to support the government’s initiatives aimed at curbing illicit drug use in the area.

During a recent engagement with community members, the Minister advised against taking matters into their own hands, particularly regarding the destruction of property belonging to individuals found using drugs.

Substance abuse among the youth has become a growing concern in many communities, especially within the Zongo areas. To address this issue, the Minister convened a meeting with security officials, local leaders, and community members to discuss strategies for supporting and encouraging volunteers dedicated to fighting drug use in Zabo Zongo.
Hajia Fati, the President of Zabo Zongo, appealed to the Minister to introduce vocational programs in Zongo communities. She emphasized that such initiatives would equip young people with employable skills, making them more productive and less susceptible to drug use.

Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak commended the volunteers in the community for their proactive efforts to address drug-related issues. He also announced a financial contribution of twenty thousand cedis to support these volunteer groups.
