The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has categorically denied any financial support from the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and is challenging former NSB boss Kwabena Adu-Boahene to specify which opposition parties he claims received GH¢8.3 million in 2024.

In a memo to the National Security Coordinator while detained at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Adu-Boahene defended himself against corruption allegations, asserting that the GH¢49 million under investigation was allocated for covert national operations, including alleged funding of opposition parties during the last election. However, he did not identify any specific parties.

In response, Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, told Joy News that the party had no ties to the funds. “We fought using our own resources. Why would our opponent give us money to defeat them? That doesn’t make sense,” he stated.

Additionally, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication emphasized that the NDC has consistently aimed to unseat the New Patriotic Party (NPP), unlike some smaller parties that often align with the NPP on national issues.

Dr. Tanko also expressed full support for the Attorney General’s ongoing prosecution of Adu-Boahene, describing the former NSB boss’s claims as a desperate attempt to deflect blame. When questioned about the possibility of the NDC receiving funds without his knowledge, he dismissed the suggestion, asserting, “These guys are just clutching at straws.”
