Domestic football in the Volta Region is witnessing an impressive revival, fueled by initiatives aimed at modernizing the sport and fostering grassroots development.
A significant milestone was achieved over the weekend when the Adaklu District Football Association (ADFA) crowned Top Talent Football Club from Adaklu Ahunda as its inaugural district champions. The team clinched the title with a 2-0 victory over Hasu United in the final of the Adaklu District Association’s Football Middle League, held at the Youth Resource Center in Adaklu.
The event attracted numerous supporters and dignitaries, including Volta Regional Minister Hon. James Gunu and Volta FA Chairman Daniel Agbogah.
This historic tournament marks the first organized league since the Adaklu, South Dayi, and Agortime Ziope districts separated from the Ho Municipal Football Association. This restructuring aims to decentralize football governance and promote localized development.
Since its inception, the ADFA has focused on infrastructure and talent development, securing office space and equipment while organizing leagues across three tiers: Division Three, U-17, and U-13.
After weeks of competition, Top Talent emerged as Division Three champions, with Star FC and Adaklu United winning the U-17 and U-13 categories, respectively.
The successful launch of the ADFA’s league underscores a commitment to nurturing young talent in the districts, a vital step towards building a sustainable football ecosystem.
As the football landscape in the Volta Region evolves, the Adaklu district has demonstrated exemplary administrative professionalism, setting a standard for neighboring District FAs. With plans to further expand District FAs, the ADFA’s success heralds a promising future for local talent and Ghana’s broader football aspirations.
