Berekum Chelsea’s head coach, Samuel Boadu, has been formally charged with misconduct by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following his team’s recent FA Cup semi-final loss to Asante Kotoko at Tarkwa TNA Stadium. The charges arise from alleged inappropriate behavior towards match officials after the game, sparking controversy within Ghanaian football circles.

In an official statement released on May 13, 2025, the GFA confirmed that Boadu violated specific regulations, including Article 12(1)(i) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019, and Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019. The allegations pertain to his conduct immediately after the match, where tensions reportedly escalated due to refereeing decisions.

According to the statement, Boadu confronted the referees in an aggressive manner, using inappropriate gestures deemed misconduct. The FA Prosecutor noted that such behavior could harm the reputation of the game and violates the principles of sportsmanship and respect for officials. The incident occurred amidst heightened emotions following the final whistle, with concerns over the officiating.

The GFA emphasized that Boadu’s actions contradict the core values of discipline and respect they strive to promote in Ghanaian football. The association underscored that such conduct undermines efforts to maintain integrity and decorum within the sport, which are essential for its development.

Boadu has until Thursday, May 15, 2025, to respond to the charges. If found guilty, he could face various penalties, including fines, a ban from the touchline, or even suspension from all football-related activities, depending on the severity of the misconduct. The case continues to attract attention as Ghanaian football seeks to uphold discipline and respect among its stakeholders.
