A catastrophic fire erupted near the Madina Redco Flats at 11:15 p.m. last night, consuming approximately 140 wooden and 20 metal structures used for both commercial and residential purposes.
Firefighters from the Madina Fire Station arrived on the scene just two minutes later, with additional support from the Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and Headquarters Fire Stations. Despite the fire being fully developed upon their arrival, the team managed to bring it under control by 12:02 a.m. and fully contained it by 2:22 a.m.
Tragically, the fire resulted in the complete destruction of over 150 structures and their contents. Among the casualties was a young Nigerian woman named Beauty, believed to be in her early twenties, who was trapped in the blaze. Her charred remains have been turned over to the Madina Police for preservation and further investigation.
Fortunately, due to the prompt and coordinated efforts of the Ghana National Fire Service, more than 200 nearby structures, including the Redco Flats, were saved from destruction.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
